Overview

Plastic coated steel wire rope combines a steel rope with a polymer jacket. Specify the nominal steel-rope diameter separately from the finished coated outside diameter, together with construction, core, lay and strength requirements. State the required polymer, colour and coating thickness for confirmation in the quotation; a PVC label alone does not define the complete rope.

Match replacement rope to the complete equipment specification, including construction, core, lay and lubrication. Diameter alone is insufficient. The equipment maker or responsible engineer must select the load basis, safety factors and retirement criteria. Provide termination drawings and identify sheave, drum or guide interfaces where relevant. Agree rope identification, measured-length records and reel handling before ordering. State document and inspection requirements in the RFQ so they can be confirmed against the exact rope specification.

Product scope

  • Construction, core and lay are separate order requirements.
  • Minimum breaking force does not itself establish the permitted working load.
  • Specify termination design and reel handling before order confirmation.

Applications

  • Sports equipment after equipment and load review
  • Guardrails or barriers under the project design
  • General goods after confirmation of contact and environmental requirements

Surface options

  • Specify the steel-rope substrate finish separately from the plastic jacket.
  • State polymer, colour, thickness, adhesion and environmental acceptance requirements for confirmation.

Processing & form

  • Specify measured lengths and cutting or end-sealing requirements.
  • Provide termination drawings and any jacket-removal instructions for the approved termination process.
  • Confirm finished-diameter clearance at guides, fittings and equipment interfaces.

Product selection references

Collect construction, diameter, core, lay and breaking-force evidence before discussing the equipment requirement.

Packing, inspection & delivery documents

Include packing, material certificate and inspection requirements so costs and delivery arrangements can be reviewed together.

Packing & delivery

Export packing options

Specify measured length, reel or coil arrangement, reel dimensions and mass limits, end protection and identification. Agree moisture protection, handling and unloading requirements for the route before order confirmation.

Quality assurance

Quality documents

Request rope identification and test documents linked to the ordered specification. Define diameter checks, construction and lay verification, surface acceptance and breaking-force test or certificate requirements. Agree sampling, witness points and reporting before order confirmation.

Export packing & loading evidence

Representative export packing and loading evidence. Final packing follows the approved order.

Order planning

Storage, inspection and application requirements

Include quantity, destination, handling and inspection requirements in your inquiry.

Thickness measurement and specification review

Inspection requirements

Include the certificate, heat identification and checks required by your order. Request third-party inspection or a visit for confirmation of scope and arrangements.

Application requirements

Specify end use, environment and processing requirements so the material can be reviewed against your project. Sports equipment after equipment and load review; Guardrails or barriers under the project design; General goods after confirmation of contact and environmental requirements

FAQ

FAQ

Which diameter should be stated in an inquiry?

State both the nominal steel-rope diameter and the finished outside diameter over the coating, with tolerances. Coating thickness and the finished diameter do not establish the steel cross-section or load capacity.

Does a plastic jacket approve a rope for lifting?

No. A jacket is not evidence of lifting suitability or a working-load limit. The complete rope, terminations, equipment standard and operating conditions require application-specific approval.

Can diameter alone identify a replacement rope?

No. Check construction, core, lay, tensile grade, breaking-force basis, lubrication and terminations against the equipment specification. Confirm suitability with the equipment maker or responsible engineer.

Does minimum breaking force equal the working-load limit?

No. The permitted working load depends on the equipment standard, duty, terminations and applicable design factors. It must be established for the application by the responsible engineer or equipment maker.
