Overview
ERW uses electric-resistance welding; LSAW and SSAW use submerged-arc welding with longitudinal and spiral seams respectively. These route names do not establish equivalence, grade or pressure rating. State which route the project permits, then identify the product standard, grade, outside diameter, wall and length. For an API 5L order, specify the required PSL and complete grade designation; structural or piling orders need their applicable project specification.
Define weld inspection methods, coverage and acceptance criteria, together with hydrostatic testing where required. Add end preparation, dimensional tolerances and delivery condition. Specify external coating and internal lining separately, with their acceptance and repair requirements. Include weld and heat identification, inspection documents, quantity, destination and packing. A proposal using a different route, standard or grade must be reviewed separately before acceptance.
