FAQ

How should X80 grade and PSL be specified?

Use the complete order designation under the agreed API 5L edition, with the permitted PSL, delivery condition and welded route. Do not assume every grade is available at either PSL. Any proposed combination must match the ordered specification and project acceptance requirements.

Does X80 alone establish service suitability?

No. The project must define pressure design, toughness, fracture control, welding and service requirements. Sour-service and offshore qualifications need their own applicable requirements and evidence. A grade label or a pipe photograph is not evidence of those qualifications.

Does PSL2 establish suitability for sour service?

PSL2 is a product specification level. It does not by itself establish suitability for sour service. Provide the service specification and any additional chemistry, hardness, toughness, HIC or SSC requirements, including test methods, sampling and acceptance criteria.

Which inspection documents belong in the order?

Specify the certificate type, heat and pipe identification, dimensional and mechanical results, and applicable hydrostatic and nondestructive examination records. Add coating records and witness points where required. Document availability and third-party involvement must be confirmed with the quotation.
